A researcher scans the Grotta dei Cervi at Porto Badisco, Italy using a 3D laser scanner. This fragile neolithic cave is an impressive example of rock painting, with more than 3000 pictograms. Although the cave is closed to the public for protection, it isn’t hidden from view — an NRC team, collaborating with researchers from Italy's Lecce University, created an accurate 3D model of the cave and its paintings for a virtualized reality system. ![]()
