This is a three-dimensional image of the human brain showing fibre tracts, which are connections between nerve cells (neurons). Fibre tracts consist of bundles of axons — the long threadlike part of neurons that conduct nerve impulses. Like superhighways, fibre tracts provide fast communication between different structures within the
brain.
