Design and Fabrication Apprenticeship Program

What is the program?

"By working closely with their clients, DFS is, quite literally, a place where good ideas take shape!"

The Design and Fabrication Apprenticeship Program (DFA) offers exciting opportunities for co-op or summer students. DFA aims to develop highly skilled tool and instrument makers and designers who will carry on NRC's tradition of technical excellence in conventional as well as new technologies.

DFA apprentices typically serve a 4-year apprenticeship with NRC after completing a course at a technical college. They are then considered fully qualified journeyman toolmakers or sheet metal workers, and are eligible to apply for any of our open positions or move on to private industry. Our apprentices receive exposure to a broad spectrum of the technical challenges in our various facilities.

DFA provides specialized technical expertise in the areas of design and fabrication to NRC. DFA provides NRC staff with a consolidated and flexible prototyping capability, as well as specialized technical facility support services tightly integrated to the research programs.

DFA offers an Apprenticeship Program for Tool and Instrument makers and a Design Mentorship Program. Co-op and summer students are encouraged to enquire for more information.
