Fire Risk Management Program (NRC-IRC)

The role of NRC Institute for Research in Construction (NRC-IRC) Fire Risk Management program is to conduct research to improve the safety of Canadians and reduce the high cost of fire. The program's team of engineers, physicists, chemists, and environmental psychologists has two principal goals: To develop cost-effective fire-control systems for:
  • structural fire protection,
  • fire barriers,
  • fire detection,
  • fire suppression, and
  • smoke management
And, to develop computer models for assessing the fire risk of buildings.
