Katharine Trim, Director General, Director General, Communications and Corporate Relations, Communications and Corporate Relations

In February 2009, Katherine Trim was appointed NRC's first Director General of the Communications Branch. Ms. Trim came to NRC via Citizenship and Immigration Canada, where she had served as Director of Public Affairs since August 2006. While there, she coordinated the 60th anniversary celebrations of Canadian citizenship and the Citizenship Act, which came into force in 1947.

Ms. Trim has more than 25 years of experience in the federal public service, including senior communications positions at the Canada Public Service Agency (part of Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat), the Public Service Commission of Canada, Parks Canada, Transport Canada, Human Resources Development Canada and Forestry Canada, where she played a lead role in communications strategies around the Green Plan.

A native of Toronto, Ms. Trim earned a B.A. in Mass Communications from the School of Journalism at Carleton University. She has published media research in the Canadian Journal of Communication. In the mid-1980s, she studied design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and launched a women's clothing business.
