NRC's membership in international scientific unions
NRC, on behalf of the Canadian scientific and engineering community, is an active participant on the world stage, playing a key role in a number of international S&T networks of strategic importance for Canada.

Since 1931, NRC has been an adhering member to the International Council for Science (ICSU) . The ICSU mission is to strengthen international science for the benefit of society. The organization fullfills this mission by promoting international scientific activity in the different branches of science, ranging from chemistry to anthropology.
In addition, NRC adheres to 30 other international scientific organizations, most of which fall under the ICSU umbrella. NRC has signed partnership agreements with the appropriate Canadian learned societies and/or agencies in support of Canada's affiliations to these international scientific organizations.
NRC receives advice on international matters from its Committee on International Science, Engineering and Technology (CISET).
