Free online presentations on the new energy efficiency requirements for housing and small buildings that were recently added to Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) 2010 are available on the National Codes website. The energy efficiency requirements for larger non-residential and mixed-use buildings falling under Part 9 are not addressed, as they must comply with the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings 2011.
These presentations provide detailed overviews of the major technical changes and cover the following topics:
- General introduction
- Building envelope
- Heating, ventilating and air-conditioning and service water heating
- Performance path for housing.
The NBC Part 9 energy efficiency requirements for housing and small buildings were prepared by the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes in collaboration with the provinces and territories. Technical support and funding for this task were provided by NRC and Natural Resources Canada.
