Time is running out for proposing changes for inclusion in the 2015 editions of the National Model Construction Codes
The deadline is fast approaching for those who are thinking of proposing a change to the National Model Construction Codes for inclusion in the 2015 editions.
To meet the 2015 publication deadline, regular proposed changes must have been considered by committees and reached the public review stage by Fall 2013 at the latest, so that the final wording can be approved by the Commission before the end of 2014. After these steps, the remaining time in the process is taken up with editing, translation and production. (For more information on the process, refer to the Decoding the Code Development Process story found in this issue.)
Special consideration may be given to a code change request that relates to a very urgent safety or health issue. In such cases, it may be possible to submit a proposed change after the deadline. By fast-tracking the process, code committees may be able to fully consider the change and secure CCBFC approval in time for inclusion in the 2015 editions.
Changes approved by the Commission after 2014 will be published in the 2020 edition of the National Model Construction Codes. They will also be available to industry and to provinces and territories for possible inclusion in their own codes as soon as they are approved.
