Background

Working with clients and partners, the National Research Council Canada provides strategic research, innovation support, scientific and technical services to develop and deploy solutions to meet Canada's current and future industrial and societal needs. Guided by our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity and collaboration, NRC is a dynamic and vibrant organization that, in its ongoing evolution, is seeking three (3) Executive Business Advisors in Ottawa.

Your challenge

Directly supporting one of the three Vice President(s) of Engineering, Life Sciences or Emerging Technologies, the Executive Business Advisor manages the divisional business strategy. The position contributes to the global business management of the NRC through the provision of expert advice and recommendation to Senior Management with a view to developing integrated and fully aligned divisional business development approaches, strategies and initiatives. In addition, the Executive Business Advisor coordinates with the Executive Director, Business Management Support to ensure divisional programs have business outreach, analysis and agreement development support to meet business development objectives.

Screening criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

A degree in Science, Management, Business Administration or Engineering. Preference may be given to candidates with an advanced degree in one of these areas of study and/or additional experience in a related field.

Experience

Recent and significant experience in developing market assessments on strategic direction, and providing strategic advice on business matters.

Extensive experience in business communications practices necessary to attract and retain key partners, clients and collaborators.

Extensive business experience in effectively managing client relationships and client services.

Experience in developing short and long-term strategic partnerships and client relationships with private sector firms, government departments and agencies.

Well versed in contract and intellectual property management.

Strong networks in industry and  government environments.

Significant experience in creating and fostering diverse teams to develop cross-organizational, high impact business solutions.

Condition of employment

  • Level II (Secret)

Language requirements

Bilingual imperative CBC/CBC

Note: In the event that no qualified bilingual candidates are identified, NRC may consider unilingual candidates who will be required to commit to achieving these levels within two years.

Advanced ability to represent the organization and create major relationships with key clients to eliminate roadblocks and increase innovation opportunities/success rates in the marketplace.

Salary range

From $99,900 to $129,700 per annum.
