Background
Working with clients and partners, the National Research Council Canada provides strategic research, innovation support, scientific and technical services to develop and deploy solutions to meet Canada's current and future industrial and societal needs. Your challenge
The successful candidate will be a member of a multidisciplinary team involved in full-scale construction and evaluation of building components, assemblies and systems. The work supports the development and deployment of innovative building products, construction methods, codes, and evaluation methods. The duties will involve the construction and instrumentation of test assemblies (including walls and floors), the operation and maintenance of shop and laboratory equipment, and the conducting and documenting of tests.
Screening criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
Secondary school diploma as per provincial standards.
For alternate qualifications please refer to equivalency heading below.
Experience
Experience in standard construction practices for building assemblies;
Experience in the operation of forklift and manlift equipment;
Experience in the operation of machine shop equipment and power tools;
Experience with the use of electronic measurement equipment would be considered an asset;
Experience working in a laboratory environment would be an asset.
Equivalency
Several years of directly related experience in the field of construction may also be considered.

Assessment criteria
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
Technical competencies:
Knowledge of standard construction practices for building assemblies;
Ability to understand blueprints and construction drawings, and to fabricate building assemblies according to specifications;
Ability to verify and document material quantities and dimensions using a computer and a digital camera;
Ability to install instrumentation such as microphones and loudspeakers, and hardware such as moveable supports and stands.

Salary range
From $38,964 to $42,604 per annum.

Physical requirements:
Heavy lifting will be required on an occasional basis.
