NRC’s Institute for Research in Construction (NRC-IRC) is seeking a professional specialized in written communications who has excellent language skills and proven writing and technical translation skills. The position consists largely of providing French editing and French document production management services to the Codes and Evaluation Program of NRC-IRC, thereby contributing to technology transfer in the Canadian construction industry and to the enhancement of the national construction codes and product evaluation systems. Key documents include six Construction Codes, including the National Building Code of Canada and other national codes on fire, plumbing, farm buildings, housing and energy, which form the basis of construction regulation nationwide. They also include technical guides and commentaries on the application of the Codes, related promotional materials and some provincial codes.
Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
Graduation from a university with specialization in translation, journalism, French literature or in a field related to technical writing or editing.
Experience
Extensive experience in translation and/or editing technical and legal documents.
Experience in managing several large publication projects concurrently.
Experience in working with internal and external clients.
Experience with computers and software, and familiarity with the use of the World Wide Web.
Experience with computer-assisted translation tools would be considered an asset.

Assessment Criteria
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
Technical Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of the editorial, translation and publication processes.
Expert knowledge of the rules of the French language.
Knowledge of project and contract management.
Working knowledge of structured information environments (i.e. HTML or XML).
Knowledge of the terminology and particular needs and preferences exhibited by regulatory code users in the Canadian construction industry is desirable.
Ability to use computer technology and tools, including Microsoft suite of products.
NOTE: Candidates will be submitted to a written test in French. Proficiency in writing a variety of reports in French is required.

Relocation

Salary Range
From $70,598 to $75,724 per annum plus the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 a year.
