Anticipatory staffing for possible continuing and term positions

Background

Working with clients and partners, the National Research Council Canada provides strategic research, innovation support, scientific and technical services to develop and deploy solutions to meet Canada's current and future industrial and societal needs. Your challenge

The Administrative Assistant provides general administrative support within a NRC research portfolio or a corporate branch or program. Some of the duties of the position include: coordinating meetings (including events and seminars); making travel arrangements; preparing correspondence, reports and presentations; establishing and maintaining filing systems and responding to routine enquiries.

This position will appeal to a person who is well organized and detail-oriented, and who enjoys working as part of team to deliver excellent client service.
 

Screening criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards.

Post-secondary education in administration may be considered an asset.

Experience

Experience providing administrative support services such as arranging meetings, making travel arrangements and processing claims, creating and maintaining files and data entry.

Significant* experience with MS Office suite products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Experience in drafting and proofreading minutes, memos and letters.

*Significant means a minimum of 2 years experience.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Experience working in a financial environment.

2) Experience in providing administrative support services at a senior management level.

3) Experience providing human resources services.

4) Experience using SAP software or another similar ERP system would be an asset.

Assessment criteria

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical competencies:

Knowledge of office administration procedures and practices such as preparing and maintaining files; preparing correspondence; arranging meetings; making travel arrangements; and data entry.

Ability to perform tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to follow directions.

Ability to provide information, explain processes and respond to queries.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

ASSETS:
Basic knowledge of accounting, financial and business principles and methods.

Basic knowledge of Treasury Board Financial Guidelines and the Financial Administration Act.

Ability to compose, proofread and edit documents and correspondence in both official languages.

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with NRC's directives.

Salary range

From $36,356 to $48,202 per annum plus the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 a year.
