Guided by our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity and collaboration, NRC is a dynamic and vibrant organization that, in its ongoing evolution, is seeking two (2) Technical Officers - Materials Engineering.

Your challenge

The incumbents will perform laboratory experiments and materials preparation and analysis for chemical technology assessments for client based projects. This includes:


•  Setup and commissioning of equipment for lab operations to be conducted for client based research
• Carry out modifications of existing and new equipment to meet experimental requirements.
• Identify appropriate sample properties, determine methods to quantify, assist in relevant sample analyses and characterization methods.
• Correlate sample and materials properties to laboratory performance.
• Assemble and fabricate electrochemical devices (ie., batteries, capacitors or other devices); test these devices to evaluate materials and device performance.

He / she will also prepare tabulated/summarized results from above for their direct supervisor, and take initiative to learn, understand, and apply all relevant safety guidelines.
 

Screening criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Material Science or Chemical Engineering.


A Master’s degree in the above-mentioned fields could be considered an asset.

Experience

• Basic experience in materials science
• Basic experience in electrochemical device testing
• Basic experience in the setup and operation of laboratory electrochemical experiments.
• Basic experience in the use of equipment for chemical analysis and material characterization (TEM, SEM, AAS, AES, XRD, DSC) and ideally various electrochemical techniques (CV, Impedance spectroscopy)


• Significant experience in any of the above could be considered an asset
 

Equivalency

A college diploma in a related field, combined with relevant experience may be considered.

• Broad knowledge of materials analysis techniques
• Solid knowledge of electrochemical devices, such as batteries and capacitors
• Ability to follow safe laboratory procedures
• Ability to collect, interpret and discuss data
• Ability to setup and modify electrochemical laboratory equipment

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with NRC's directives.

Salary range

From $51,114 to $70,000 per annum.
