Your challenge

Printable Electronics (PE) is a transformative technology that will add intelligence to printed products, reduce the cost of manufacturing electronic devices, is environmentally sustainable, and will change the way we live, work and play.  PE is at the intersection of two well-established Canadian industries: ICT and printing. NRC is the only Canadian research and technology organization with the track record, expertise and infrastructure to address challenges along the whole value chain.

NRC is seeking a Research Officer with proven skills in designing and testing printable thin film memory modules with integrated decoders. The candidate will work closely with circuit designers, OTFT and memory cell developers, other team members and our industrial partners to develop integrated low cost printable electronics using printed organic thin films transistors, memories and other printed components. The primary responsibility of the incumbent is to develop and fabricate re-writable non-volatile thin film memory modules with integrated decoder for high frequency low power applications, and to develop and optimize fabrication processes for inkjet printing, sheet-to-sheet, and roll-to-roll printing systems.

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Ph.D. Degree in Physical Sciences or a Master’s Degree in Engineering combined with work experience in research or technology development.

Experience

Significant experience in the fabrication and integration of printable thin film memories and driving circuits;

Significant experience in semiconductor devices, circuits, and characterization;

Significant experience in various printing technologies;

Basic experience in surface functionalization and surface treatment.
 

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of education and extensive experience in an industrial, academic or government Printable Electronics research & development environment may be considered.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical competencies:

Solid knowledge of semiconductor devices and circuits;

Solid knowledge of printed thin film memories and related driving circuits;

Solid knowledge of various printing technologies;

Hands-on ability in fabrication and characterization of memory modules;

Hands-on ability in materials processing for printable memory modules;

Ability to work on project in both an independent fashion and in a team environment and to bring it to a successful conclusion (as evidenced by a record of achievements such as successful projects with clear deliverables, patents etc. in the field).

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with NRC's directives.

Salary range

This position is classified as a Research Officer (RO), a group that is unique to the NRC. The RO group uses a person-based classification system instead of the more common duties-based classification system. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise, skill, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience. The salary scale for this group is vast, from $38,921 to $125,067 per annum, which permits for employees of all levels from new graduates to world renowned experts to be fairly compensated for their contributions. In addition, an incumbent occupying a position within the RO Groups is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $8,000 per year.
