NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP)

This is a continuing position.
Your Challenge
The successful candidate will help Canadian small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) increase sales, employment and productivity by assisting and stimulating technological innovation. This will include evaluating and contributing to research and development projects, problem solving, ensuring technical and market intelligence, as well as assessing and adapting new technologies. The incumbent will promote awareness of and facilitate access to technical expertise, programs and services existing in NRC, provincial research organizations, government laboratories, universities and colleges by using the NRC-IRAP Technology Network. He/she will develop and use a network of contacts to assist Canadian SMEs in specialized and broad-based fields.
Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
University degree in science or engineering relating to the position of interest.
Preference may be given to candidates with a business degree in addition to a degree in science or engineering.
Experience
Significant experience relevant to mechanical/mining technologies or other relevant technologies as well as at least two of the following areas: R&D, SME management, technical product or process design, production, quality assurance, new product development, product commercialization, or technical sales and marketing.
Preference will be given to candidates with significant business management experience.
Preference may be given to individuals with industry-related experience in areas of: manufacturing, engineering design, process engineering.
Preference may also be given to candidates who could demonstrate examples of leadership in consultation with stakeholders, establishing strong relationships and in managing effective partnerships.
Experience in assisting SMEs in the use of technology such as described in the duties would be an asset.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
Technical Competencies:
Thorough knowledge of the
Knowledge in R&D, SME management, technical product or process design, production, quality assurance, new product development, product commercialization, or technical sales and marketing.
Understanding of NRC-IRAP’s role and objectives in providing advice to client firms at both the strategic and operating levels.
A good understanding of the technology and management needs of SMEs.
Good knowledge of financing and accounting principles as they pertain to managing SMEs.
Behavioural Competencies:

Relocation
Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with NRC's directives.
Salary Range
This position is classified as a Research Council Officer (RCO), a group that is unique to the NRC. The RCO group uses a person-based classification system instead of the more common duties-based classification system. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise, skill, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience. The salary scale for this group is vast, from $38,346 to $123,219 per annum, which permits for employees of all levels from new graduates to world renowned experts to be fairly compensated for their contributions. In addition, an incumbent occupying a position within the RCO Groups is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $8,000 per year plus the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 a year.
