Your Challenge
Under general supervision, and working in an organization with special purpose facilities which include industrial and scientific equipment, the incumbent provides repair, servicing and installation services for a variety of plumbing, steam, condensation, piping, water and heating, fire protection, process water systems. Maintenance activities are carried out in response to emergency situations and malfunctions and as part of regular preventive maintenance programs. The incumbent is responsible for after-hour service to plumbing and heating systems during emergency and scheduled shutdowns.
Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
High School Diploma.
Trade certification as a steamfitter is required.
Trade certification as a plumber may be considered an asset.
Experience
Extensive experience in the service, maintenance and installation of plumbing, fire protection and steam systems and equipment for both buildings and underground distribution systems.

Assessment Criteria
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
Technical Competencies:
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of building, site and facility mechanical systems and equipment such as domestic water distribution, steam and condensate and distilled water system;
Knowledge of tools, materials and safety procedures (i.e. fire protection) related to the industrial plumber trade;
Ability to maintain and troubleshoot mechanical/plumbing/heating equipment and systems;
Ability to interpret drawings and sketches.

Salary Range
From $53,084 to $57,601 per annum.

Requirement to work at any NRC Facility within the National Capital Region on an as required basis.
These positions are being advertised internally and externally simultaneously; however, first consideration will be given to internal NRC applicants.
Working conditions: The incumbent will be expected to work on ladders and scaffolds, elevated platforms, in confined spaces and in varying temperatures (-30oC to +35oC). Requirement to work at the Montreal Road campus on an as required basis. Overtime is also required for certain projects at varying times of the year.

An eligibility list may be established for similar positions for a one year period.
Physical requirements:
The physical demands of this position include: climbing ladders, handling heavy and bulky objects (pushing, pulling, lifting), crouching and bending. Working in environments where dust and odours are common. Working in conditions of temperature differences and where confined spaces are encountered.
