Background
Working with clients and partners, the National Research Council Canada provides strategic research, innovation support, scientific and technical services to develop and deploy solutions to meet Canada's current and future industrial and societal needs. Guided by our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity and collaboration, NRC is a dynamic and vibrant organization that is seeking three Directors, Research and Development.

Your Challenge
The Director, Research and Development, provides leadership to assigned research unit resources and manages program activities, ensuring alignment with NRC’s objectives. Supports the General Manager in developing both employees and business or collaboration opportunities to create long-term sustainability for the organization. Where assigned, manages R&D program(s), technical services, facilities, or other internal capabilities in home or other areas of NRC operations.
Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
Degree in science or engineering in a field relevant to the area of the position. Preference may be given to candidates with a combination of technical and business education.
Technical areas of interest for this competition include, but are not limited to, manufacturing, metals and ceramics, polymers, aluminum technology.
Experience
Significant and in depth experience working with Canadian and international communities and industries related to research unit activities.
Significant and recent experience in leading multidisciplinary R&T teams and programs within a large, complex organization.
Significant experience working within the relevant scientific and technological domains, as well as with industry, government or other pertinent partnerships.
Significant and recent management experience including administrative, human resources, financial management and project management.
Condition of Employment
- Level II (Secret)
- Travel may be required.
Language Requirements
Bilingual imperative CBC/CBC

In-depth understanding of relevant science, technology, business and industry issues, and of internal and external factors that impact research unit operations.
Ability to lead and influence change while applying best practices in the management of human resources, finances and projects, and strategic planning.
Ability to effectively lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team with a participative management style.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, to work cooperatively and effectively with a broad range of colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.

Salary Range
From $99,900 to $129,700 per annum.
